March 2007 News Letter

March 2007 Newsletter "The Pinnacle"
Vol. 1, #1    Pinnacle Lodge, #661, F&AM, Middlesborough, Ky, Dist. #30

Dear Brothers & Friends of Pinnacle Lodge, #661:

It's that time of year again - time for our periodic newsletter! What, you say? Time for the newsletter? What newsletter? Well, we're changing that with this, our first official periodic newsletter of Pinnacle Lodge, #661, a publication we hope will both inform and occasionally entertain you with updates as to what's happening with your brothers and friends here at Pinnacle and throughout the community of Freemasons at large in Middlesborough, Kentucky, Bell County, and all of Southeast Kentucky.

I've taken the liberty of naming our newsletter "The Pinnacle," in honor of both our lodge's name and in recognition of the word Pinnacle's implications - a peak, a goal, a height, the loftiest mark. I think you'd agree this title symbolically sums up the goals of the lodge for this year, past years, and years to come in a single statement. Let us all strive for such heights in all we endeavor to accomplish as men, free citizens, and Masons!

We miss our Brothers: Brothers, if you can't be with us at our meetings on the 1st and 3rd Mondays each month, 7:30 PM, we hope we're in your thoughts. You sure are in ours! We miss seeing you and sitting in lodge with our dispersed brethren across the city and county area. We sure would love to see all of you again real soon. The lodge, Masonry, and our Brothers' energy, as you know, depends on more than just your paid dues - we crave your conversation, presence, and wisdom as well!  Our average attendance over the last few years has been around 12 brothers per meeting. But we have approximately 110 brothers on our Pinnacle membership role! Let us know how we can help get more folks out to our regular meetings and community functions. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Degree Work:   With the help of senior members and Past Masters such as Brs. Dallas Good, Joey Young, Jr., and Greg Daniels, we've been successful in conducting a number of degrees recently, including half a dozen EAs, four FCs in early March, and with the assistance of Hugh Harris Lodge in Corbin, a MM degree for a brother as well. We also have a pending EA petition. Brothers, this is good work. Mentoring these brothers through the degrees to completion of the MM is but the first step, as you know, and the work before them and us lies ahead in what we all will do in the good name of Freemasonry. We are Masonry and Masonry is us. Let that reflection mirror truth and the well-lit path of a true man.

Projects:   Allow me to inform you of a grand endeavor being taken on presently by your lodge brothers. In efforts of replacing the lodgeroom carpet we are attempting to gather the money necessary in our carpet replacement fund to complete this project by the middle of calendar year 2008. This gives us fifteen more months to make this goal a reality. We currently have $1,300 toward our overall need of at least $3,000. Brothers, to be honest, we need everyone's help on this. The lodge carpet we now have has served well for the last 40+ years, but the time has come to replace it. The degree work we do can be impressive, however, the overall state of the lodge (both inside and out) is also an important part of our "work." Please consider this opportunity. Any donation you can muster is appreciated whether it's $5, $10, $50, $100, or the whole "kit-and-kaboodle," as they say. Send your donations to Br. Sec. Joey Young, Jr., Pinnacle Lodge, #661, PO Box 147, Middlesborough, KY 40965.

Br. Greg Daniels (Jr. Warden, 2007) has outlined a tremendous list of 2007 goals for the lodge. We will be listing them soon and hope both have your important input and keep you abreast of our community work and lodge projects as the year progresses.

Lodge T-Shirts for sale (get 'em while they're hot): We have a number of very nice t-shirts still for sale and available to you for the very affordable price of $10 each. You have your choice of either a blue or white shirt and both have our lodge name and regular masonic logo. Contact us any of the brothers with your order. Proceeds continually fund such projects as the lodge carpet fund.

Masonic Home Journal On-Line: Now available on-line, go here for instructions on how to sign up for electronic versions of the Kentucky Masonic Home Journal: http://www.grandlodgeofkentucky.org/publications/subscribe.php  This will save the Grand Lodge the additional costs of printing for every Brother signing up for on-line distribution and we can all agree on the importance of good budgeting decisions.

Annual Canned-Goods Donations for Cooperative Christian Ministry: By November 1st, 2007 goal. Any canned goods you wish to donate should be brought to the lodge by November. Arrangements can also be made for us to come by and pick them up from you.

Lodge History Committee: A number of Brothers have been working on reorganizing the lodges archives and its documents over the last few months as well as rummaging through a number of "dark corners" that have not seen the light of day in apparently a long time! We've found some interesting relics along the way you'll be happy to know we've been able to save and file away for posterity's sake. We are also better able to more efficiently find older and new documents than before. That's always a good thing.

Present Needs: We could use a few things you may have sitting around the house you may be considering donating to a worthy cause. Consider your Lodge.
